News from the Lute Society

1. NEXT LUTE SOCIETY MEETING

If you happen to be in London this Saturday 22nd of November do come to the next meeting of the Lute Society. This time we are at the Swedenborg Hall, 20-21 Bloomsbury Way, London, WC1A 2TH, near The Art Workers Guild where we used to meet, and near Holborn tube station. No need to book - just turn up!

The November meeting is themed (after a fashion!) around re-invention and rediscovery; the very old and the very new, with a talk and performances by a reconstructed lute quartet, a talk and performances of old ballads set to Dowland songs, and some newly discovered pairings of 16th century words and music, and the ‘christening’ of a mediaeval lute and gittern newly made by David van Edwards and his students. We also once again welcome Yair Avidor who will give a short recital on baroque lute.
