2. LUTE WORKSHOP IN YORKSHIRE
Lute Workshop Day with Jacob Heringman 20th February, Richmond, North Yorks.

WHONEEMF (North East Early Music Forum) invites players of lute and other plucked instruments to a playing day. The format will be flexible, depending on numbers. It will include a session of ‘open lessons’ in which people come to the front and play something, and Jacob brings up points which will be relevant to the group as a whole. He has found that observing and discussing in this way is a really good way to learn.

There will be ensemble playing for three or four lutes, where we can use the different spaces in the Zetland Centre, and Jacob will circulate; music will be provided mostly in tab, with some in score (with figured bass). After lunch there will be a talk on a particular topic, such as playing counterpoint on the lute – bringing out the voices.

There will be time for questions, answers and discussions. Pitch for the ensemble playing will be A=440 Hz. Jacob Heringman has established himself as one of the world's most respected and most innovative solo lute players. He appears on over 50 CDs as a soloist, collaborator and ensemble player.
