BGS Meeting 6th January 2018

Our first meeting of 2018.
Spirits are riding high following our polished performance at the Beckenham Festival,
and we started the new year aiming to equal this at the Bromley Festival on March 4th.

As there are only a few meetings before then, we started work straight away on the new music John had chosen for us –The Connemara Suite by Turlough O’Carolan in arrangements for four guitars.   John started each of the five short pieces quite slowly to give us time to sight read, to enable us to hear the other parts and how they fitted in with our own lines.   Each piece was played several times, gradually quickening to the required tempo by which time we were ‘getting the feel of it’.

After Trevor’s welcome refreshments, we sat back to enjoy some solos.

Thomas Little Birch (trad. Russian)
Tom Hupfauf (Hans Neusidler)
 Study #5 (Leo Brouwer)
Shaun Salt and Pepper (Per-Olov Kindgren)

Then it was back to play through the Connemara Suite again.   We realised we were really listening and playing together and look forward to improving on our musicality in the next meetings.

Please visit the Current Ensemble Repertoire page to see the pieces we are currently working on.
