The Widmore Consort gave a wonderful performance at the March Meeting of the BGS. We were treated to a great selection of pieces under the baton of consort master Paul Brown and for those members of the BGS who attended, it was an enjoyable evening.
Paul and his group had obviously put a lot of time and effort in the preparation and delivery of an entertaining program and we would like to thank them for a great evening. I am sure that Paul would be happy to hear from BGS members who might like to join his consort.
After Paul and his consort departed we had a mixture of solos from the members. Pieces played included Barrios, Tarrega, Bogadanovich, Villa Lobos, and Merz. Len Ivell took us to the Wild West with a rendition of old favourites and Fred gave us a bit of Jazz guitar with a sterling performance of Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. Unfortunately no sound recordings this time.
No Ray to chivvy us with the De Witt piece but Denis stepped up to the plate and we made a fair go of it. Mind you the Sarabande still needs a bit of work.
We can't make a secret that we were a little disappointed at the turnout for this meeting and we hope that we get more members attending the next meeting which will be a real cracker. We will have two 20 minute performances from Gary Ryan's top students so this is one not to miss!!
See you in April!!
