The February Meeting was very well-attended and a great deal of good work was put into the preparation of our FGS Day / Beck Fest pieces. There were also excellent individual contributions from members. We welcomed Miles Roberts, Tom Rimmer and Tessa Protheroe from Wealden, Tessa making her first visit to BGS. We also welcomed Ray Butcher, one of our Society’s stalwarts.
From 6:45 pm until 8:00 pm, Rob Sellery led us through an exhaustive and detailed analysis of the Minuet and Trio. After a shorter than usual refreshment break it was suggested that, due to possible timing constraints, we should rehearse Joropo, before proceeding with members’ individual performances. Consequently, John Mann worked very hard to coax an ever-improving performance of Joropo, at a final tempo which surprised us all!!
The current attendance at our meetings and enthusiasm for these ensembles is really most encouraging. All credit to John and Rob for their diligent work.
There was, fortunately, sufficient time to accommodate most of those players who wished to perform:-
Jenny Wormald. “Mermaid’s Beads” and “Twist and Shout”, by Luke Dunlea.
Danny Kim. “Coming Back To Reality”, own composition.
Trevor Pike. “Georgia On My Mind”, by Hoagy Carmichael.
Tom Rimmer. “Fortune My Foe”, by John Dowland.
Freddy Carvalho. “Study in A”, by Francisco Tarrega.
Vince Chittenden. “Derniere Estudine”, by Francis Kleynjans.
Miles Roberts. “Coral” and “Cancion”, from “Suite Compostelana”, by Federico Mompou.

Thanks, as always, to the ever-faithful Trevor for refreshments and the meeting finished at almost ten-o-clock
