The August meeting was very well attended and exceeded expectations. The members present requested that our ensemble input to both The Beckenham and Maidstone Festivals should now be:-
“Alta Vista” by Peter Nuttall and two South American Folk Songs viz. Cancao (from Brazil) and El Cachimbo (from Chile).
We rehearsed these pieces extensively throughout the evening as well as enjoying the following individual performances:
Marion Davis “Wisteria” by David Cottam.
Paul Yates “Etude in A Major” by Carcassi.
“Birds Flew Over The Spire” by Gary Ryan.
Freddy Carvalho “Smoke Gets In Youe Eyes” by Cole Porter.
Vince Chittenden “Trio” by Giuiani.
Steve Pearson “Lagrima” by Tarrega.
“Sea Of Nectar” by Per-Olov Kindgren.
Ashley Blasse “Prelude” by J S Bach, from BWV 998
The playing standard of each individual performer was very high indeed and made good listening. Click here to listen
The Committee are very proud to announce that Gary Ryan, one of our members, has been made a Fellow of The Royal College of Music. Gary is the first classical guitarist to have this honour bestowed upon him since John Williams, in 1983. This is a significant achievement for Gary, who is also the first ever classical guitarist to be appointed as Deputy Director of Strings at the RCM. We send him our sincerest congratulations and, if you visit Gary’s Facebook page, then you may read the many tributes to him posted there.
