BGS Meeting 7th April 2018

Greetings 'Pluckers and Strummers' of the BGS!

A slightly belated addition to the blog site today. My apologies Marion.

First of all a special congratulations for all those members of our fine ensemble team who achieved a hard won first place at the Bromley Music Festival for the performance of Bruno Szordikowski's arrangement of the  'Connemara' Suite.  In the words of the adjudicator their performance 'nailed it'. Well done to all and a special thanks to John Mann for his hard work in bringing us all up to peak  condition.

So it was in a celebratory mood, that we met on Saturday 7th to work on our next pieces which include the Salut D'Amour by Elgar and 'Cueca' by Barrios Mangore getting off to a cracking start.

Your correspondent was disappointed that we didn't give the 'Burglar Bill' arrangement a  trot as I had brought a policeman's whistle for John to blow at the appropriate part in the piece but for some reason he was unenthusiastic- probably because there was no 'Bobby's Helmet' to go with it!! If any members out there have such a helmet do please bring it along this Saturday!! Along with the whistle, it will make John stand out as our ensemble leader!! I know he will be so  pleased if you do!!!

Only two solos to report for the evening
Angustara (Lauro)  performed by Eduardo
Torrija (Torroba)  performed by John

Both were excellent!

Don't forget to bring your ensemble pieces Salud D Amour, Cueca and Connemara to the coming meeting on Saturday 21st April. Hope to see you there if  my hospital convalescence is complete by then. Fingers crossed!!!

(My apologies in advance for any errors or offence created in this week's blog. They did warn me of the dangers of writing important documents after a General Anaesthetic! :)
