Is it Good King Wenceslas conferring with his faithful chamberlain? Or Catweazle with his familiar Touchwood? Or Saint Nick (not Old Nick) spreading gifts to one and all?
Actually you would be close if you went for the latter. It is none other than our favourite ensemble leader Ray Butcher sharing a few Christmas jokes with our chairman Denis Stockton.
Like St Nick, Ray came prepared with Ensemble gifts for the rest of us including Carnavalito and Los Palmeros which the BGS will be performing for next years Federation Guitar Society Meeting, which will be hosted by the BGS. (Keep visiting the blog site for more news about the event. Keep late June 2011 free in your diaries!!)
As it was our final meeting for 2010, we marked the occasion with a Christmas party spread. The port was flowing freely as you may judge when you listen to some of the solo performances enclosed.
The solo program included the following
Irish Folk Songs
The Belle of Barking Creek
I'd wish they'd do it now
Both performed by Trevor Pike (and I suspect the latter song really came from the heart!!:)
The second performance saw a return to Christmas theme with a rendition of Silent Night and Joy to the World performed as a guitar duet by Trevor Pike and Larissa Liebermann.
This was followed with a piece performed by Vince Chittenden called Milongue del Ayer by Abel Fleury.
And finally a delightful rendition of Pachabel's Canon in D performed by Steve Pearson
It was a very Merry Christmas turnout for the BGS and special thanks should go to our Chairperson Den Stockton, Ray Butcher and our BGS Quartermaster Trevor Pike for their efforts. God Bless us all and Tiny Tim!!
On behalf of the BGS let me wish all members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2011!
Update
If any one found a black scarf/headband on Saturday night, please let Larissa Lieberman know as it belongs to her?
