BGS February 6th 2016 Meeting

It was a dark and stormy night… Thanks to all who braved the elements to come out to our marathon playalong. We had a good turnout of 14. We are pleased to welcome newly subscribed members Val Lawson and Ivan Fernandes who returned after trying us out last time. We also welcomed Teymur Dadashov to his first meeting and were delighted when he treated us to a couple of traditional Azerbaijani tunes arranged for classical guitar by his teacher back in his home country.

After a few announcements about FGS Day, (26th June – mark your calendars), which we are pleased to be hosting in Beckenham, we warmed up with good ol’ Alta Vista before getting stuck into the Grieg Sarabande and Gavotte, which are starting to sound really nice with more attention to the dynamics and meter. We worked diligently on these pieces until the break, (thanks Trevor as always for serving up the teas and coffees), after which we had four excellent solo performances. Andrew’s performance even included some “impromptu accompaniment” by Trevor!

Despite the late evening encroaching we reconvened in the final part of the meeting  to work on the Romance Without Words (Faure). With this piece as well, the dynamics are starting to come together – it is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

We will continue to work hard towards the events coming up – NADFAS and FGS, but no doubt have some laughs along the way! See you on the 20th.
