We have been practising hard for this event seemingly forever! Tonight was the night. When we arrived we had to wait around for a while before we were due to perform. I think we were all quite nervous. All eleven of us waited in an upstairs room with John giving us some last minute advice and encouragement. Then the time was upon us and we all shuffled downstairs with our guitars and into the spotlight. We were playing to a group of diners, between courses. They all quietened down after we had been introduced and we began our set. The first section consisted of:
Ensemble | Sarabande and Gavotte from the Holberg Suite Op.40 (Grieg) |
Vince Chittenden and Larisa Lieberman | Andante, Op. 55 No. 1 (Fernando Sor) Larghetto Sostenuto, Op. 96 no. 2 (Ferdinando Carulli) |
Ensemble | Yesterday (Lennon/McCartney, arr. André Couasnon) |
Greensleeves (Trad., arr. J. Compton)
Thorben Louw | Cavatina (Stanley Myers) Rosita (Francisco Tárrega) |
The first set went very well. The audience seemed to have really enjoyed it and we had played well. Once again we waited in the room upstairs, but now we were not so nervous and were quite animated by it. Soon it was time for the second set:
Ensemble | Ballad from the Dance Suite (Mark Houghton) |
Romance Without Words (Gabriel Fauré, arr. G Garcia)
Andrew Ferrier | Divinere (Ludovico Einaudi) |
Ensemble | Nota Bene (Luc Lévesque) Alta Vista Peter Nuttall) |
After our performance we received great applause and some very nicely-worded accolades from the group's spokesperson. I think we all thoroughly enjoyed our first 'gig'. Well done to all of us, especially the soloists who braved it alone!
