BGS Meeting 5th May 2018

Tonight we welcomed one new player and were pleased that last session’s newcomer
returned.

John had found the music for two Mexican folk songs and encouraged us through sight
reading them - Las Mananitas, arranged by Eythor Thorlaksson and La Cucaracha
arranged by Jan-Olof Eriksson. Both looked fairly straightforward until changes of
key, off-beat rhythm, dynamics, and repeats had to be contended with.

Last session we worked on E Elgar’s Salut D’Amour. We returned to it and as we
found before off-beat rhythms proved tricky as did slowing down to a pause and then
resuming tempo.

Four solos were enjoyed after tea break refreshments provided by Trevor.

Tom Two traditional Scottish Airs (trad.)
Mike [debut] Petit Air D’Argentine (F Kleynjans)
Eduardo La Gatica (Lauro)
Toby Elegy for a King (Frederic Hand)

The evening was rounded off by playing again Las Mananita and Salut D’Amour.

Please visit the Current Ensemble Repertoire page to see the pieces we are currently working on.
