BGS Meeting 2nd June 2018

On 24th June we are taking part in the annual Federation of Guitar Societies Day, this year being held near Cambridge. Besides the Bromley society, several other societies will come together for a whole day of making music. In the morning we will learn two pieces picked by the day’s conductor, and we will perform them at the end of the afternoon - Gustav’s Dream by Olga Amelkina-Vera, and Tico Tico by Zequinha Abreu arr. Steve Marsh. After the lunch break, we will listen as each society plays pieces of their choosing. We will Play Salut D’Amour by Edward Elgar arr. K Love, and Cueca, a Chilean dance by Augustin Barrios Mangore. These we have been practicing, aware that we now have only one more rehearsal.

Tonight we worked on Gustav’s Dream for the Federation day ensemble and then on Bromley’s two pieces. After Trevor’s welcome refreshments, we enjoyed two solos:

Eduardo Theme (F. Handel)

 Cantico (V.E. Sojo)
Tom Largo (D. Kellner arr. M. Lewin)

It was then back to the Cueca for a little more fine-tuning, until we wrapped up the evening.
