Ten members met tonight.
We tackled the three pieces John had emailed for us to sight-read – Ojos Azures, a Chilean folk song, and
Sertanega, a Brazilian folk song, both arranged by Lee Sollory; and Schottisch by Franz Schubert In John’s
absence, Kate ably wielded the proverbial baton and took us through bit by bit.
At this point Kate had to leave the session. How to continue
playing ensemble without a conductor? Trevor’s clear firm voice counted us
through The Sage Leaf from The English Dancing Master arranged by Andrew Forrest.
This proved to work well. Next we played
by metronome control.
Time for tea break – thanks again to Trevor for supplying
and serving refreshment at the hatch.
For solo's, Tom played
Carrickfergus, a traditional Irish air arranged by John Moesberg. This led to
an interesting conversation about Irish music.
Our last piece tonight was a four part arrangement of Jesu,
Joy of Man’s Desiring by JS Bach.
