Ten of us braved the very hot weather to meet at
Bromley. Under John’s instruction, we
started learning a famous Minuet by Luigi Boccherini, arranged by Kevin
Love. Several sections were repeated
and when we moved on in the music there were key changes to watch out for. Less well known was The Sage Leaf. This remained in one key and only four bars
were repeated. This music was arranged
by Andrew Forrest from The English Dancing Master 1670.
After Trevor’s welcome refreshments, we enjoyed two solos:
Tom | Sarabande (Francis Poulenc)
|
John | Choro de Saudad (Augustin Barrios-Mangore) |
| Julia Florida (Augustin Barrios-Mangore) |
The remaining time was spent on Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring
by J S Bach, in 9/8 time, which required a lot of counting, with slow,
sustained notes, and tuning string 6 down to D for part 4.
