BGS Meeting 20th Oct 2018

It was good to see so many members here this evening. After greetings and chat, we settled into sight-read a piece selected for us by John – a four part arrangement by Edson Lopes of Quebra Cabecas by Ernesto Nazareth. The geography of the piece proved a challenge but we got the hang of it! In preparation for the Beckenham Festival on Sunday 18 November, we turned our attention to our three pieces.

  • Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by J S Bach arranged in four parts
  • Minuet by Boccherini arranged by K Love. (Players kept in time better tonight)
  • Sage Leaf from The English Dancing Master 1670, arranged by Andrew Forrest

After some news updates we enjoyed refreshments in the break provided by Trevor, after which members treated us to a variety of solo guitar

Victoria Prelude (Peter Nuttall)
Tom She Moved Through the Fair  (trad)
 Bushes and Briars (trad)
Marion Nocturne (David Cottam)
Eduardo Study (Fernando Sor)
Max Bagatelle (Heinrich Marschner)

There were a few minutes at the end of the evening for the ensemble to play our three
pieces through again..

Please visit the Current Ensemble Repertoire page to see the pieces we are currently working on.
