BGS Meeting 20th April 2019

Fewer people attended tonight because it was Easter weekend, but we had enough to cover two to each part. The ensemble worked on Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by J S Bach and Quebra Cabecas by Ernesto Nazareth which are the two pieces we will be playing at the Reigate and Redhill Music  Festival on Sat. 18th May. We have only one more meeting before then in which to practice our pieces together.

David provided the refreshments tonight, and then we sat back and enjoyed six
solos

John Cancion (Frederic Mompou)
Antonio Sarabande (G F Handel)
Tom Sarabande (Poulenc)
 Andante (Molino)
Marion Gaelic Song II (Peter Nuttall)
Victoria Prelude from Cello Suite I (J.S. Bach)

For the final half hour, John gave us ‘Air’ by Jean Philippe Rameau to sight read. The way the music was written down presented us with a problem in that one bar was split at a repeat point so that beats three and four were to be found lower down the page (if you knew where to look). This bar went straight into the key change with two flats and resulted in some strange chords until players adjusted.

Please visit the Current Ensemble Repertoire page to see the pieces we are currently working on.
