BGS Meeting 4th May 2019

We welcomed a new player this evening. We hope he will become a member. He was plunged straight into the ensemble’s last rehearsal of the two pieces we will be playing at the Reigate and Redhill Music Festival on Sat. 18th May. A few members playing tonight say they are not able to take part on the 18th but we are grateful for their playing with us today as this helped boost our confidence.

John worked the ensemble several times through Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by JS Bach and Quebra Cabecas by Ernesto Nazareth. The Tango’s rhythms and repeats are tricky, but John must have felt we were getting to grips with the piece because he upped the tempo and then upped it some more!

The refreshment break was very welcome and members gathered round the serving hatch to partake of drinks and eatables provided by Trevor. Five solos were played:

David Los Suenos (Piazzolla)
 Chanson de la Naissance (Piazzolla)
Victoria Tango en herbe (Tisserand)
Tom Boolavogue (trad. Irish)
Antonio Asturias (Albeniz)

The final twenty minutes gave us just time for a last play through of both pieces.

Upcoming Performance

Internationally renowned Syrian classical guitarist Ayman Jarjour has performed worldwide, including at Carnegie Hall in New York, and studied in Madrid and Juilliard.
