BGS Meeting 1st June 2019

After our successful performance in the Reigate and Redhill Festival on 18 May, we were ready to start a new piece. John led us through The Dargason finale of a Gustave Holst suite. Some players were taken by surprise when the tune of Greensleeves was heard coming from one or other of the five parts.

In Trevor’s absence due to an accident, Larisa very kindly provided refreshments during the break.

David then chaired a short extraordinary meeting, necessary as John will be leaving the Society at the end of June. Discussion centred round the need to find a new ensemble leader. There was almost unanimous agreement that members wish to keep to two meetings per month as this enables continuity. Various suggestions were put forward as to the style of future meetings.

Following the brief meeting, four solos were played:

Victoria Lagrima (Francisco Tárrega)
John Milonga del Angel (Astor Piazzolla)
Mark Cancion del Lladre (Miguel Llobet)
Eduardo Preludio (Carrenao)

The evening finished with a fine rendering of Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by J S Bach.

Please visit the Current Ensemble Repertoire page to see the pieces we are currently working on.
