BGS Meeting July 20th 2019

We tackled two new pieces tonight which David had sent us:- A Bouree by Handel in three parts, and The Greenwood Tree, an old English air, arranged in four parts by Andrew Forrest. For these David counted us in. Then to stretch our sight reading abilities further, he suggested we switch parts so that in the end we each played every part.

David provided and served refreshments in the break, after which we enjoyed the following solos and duet:

Ivan and Marion Holderia Holdrio (Austrian folk song)
Lesley  Czech Ballarde (Milan Tesar)
Tom  Tempo de Danze Arabe (Julio Sagreras)

Tom then handed round the music for an Argentine folk tune arranged by John Whitworth. Tricky rhythms for sight reading, but we liked the tune very much and are sure we will get to grips better with it next time. Our next meeting is on 3rd August – just one meeting in August because of holidays. Make a note of 7th September as this is likely to be our AGM. night and we need your say as to your society’s move towards 2020.

Please visit the Current Ensemble Repertoire page to see the pieces we are currently working on.
